How to Cancel Grok Subscription (2026 Guide)

Grok is billed one of two ways — a standalone SuperGrok subscription on grok.com, or an X Premium/Premium+ subscription that unlocks Grok inside the X app. Cancel each from that specific account's billing settings, or from your Apple ID / Google Play if you paid through a mobile app store.

To cancel Grok, first check whether you’re paying for a standalone SuperGrok plan on grok.com or for Grok access bundled into an X Premium/Premium+ subscription — then cancel from that specific account’s billing settings. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play instead, the cancel control lives on your phone, not inside Grok or X.

Step 1: figure out which Grok subscription you actually have

Grok is unusual among the major AI chatbots because xAI sells access to it two different ways:

  • SuperGrok / SuperGrok Heavy — a standalone subscription purchased directly on grok.com, independent of any X (Twitter) account status.
  • X Premium / Premium+ — a subscription to the X platform that includes Grok access as one of its perks, billed through X, not grok.com.

Check your bank statement, receipt email, or in-app billing history for the merchant name (grok.com vs. X Corp) if you’re not sure which applies to you.

Cancel a standalone SuperGrok subscription

  1. Go to grok.com and log in.
  2. Open SettingsBilling.
  3. Select Manage subscription.
  4. Choose Cancel subscription and confirm.

Access continues until the end of your current billing period; there’s no partial refund for the remaining days.

Cancel Grok access bundled into X Premium

  1. Open the X app or go to x.com.
  2. Tap your profile icon → Settings and privacy.
  3. Go to Premium (or Subscriptions, depending on version).
  4. Select Manage subscriptionCancel subscription.

Canceling X Premium removes Grok access along with the other Premium perks (verification badge, edit button, etc.) at the end of the billing period.

Cancel through the App Store or Google Play

If you originally subscribed inside the iOS or Android app — whichever app you used — cancel through your device instead:

PlatformSteps
iPhone (App Store)Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Grok or X → Cancel Subscription
Android (Google Play)Google Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Grok or X → Cancel

What happens after you cancel

  • You keep paid features (higher Grok usage limits, Grok Imagine access, SuperGrok Heavy reasoning) until the current billing period ends.
  • Your account and saved conversations stay intact — canceling is not the same as deleting your account. See how to delete your Grok account if you want that too.
  • You can resubscribe to either SuperGrok or X Premium at any time afterward.

How to confirm the cancellation went through

For a standalone SuperGrok subscription, the Billing → Manage subscription screen should now show a message like “Your plan ends on [date]” instead of an upcoming renewal charge, and you should get an email confirmation. For X Premium, check Settings and privacy → Premium — it should show the subscription as set to expire rather than auto-renew.

Troubleshooting common Grok cancellation issues

  • “I canceled SuperGrok but I’m still being charged.” You most likely subscribed through the App Store or Google Play — canceling on grok.com has no effect on an app-store billing relationship. Cancel again from your phone’s own subscription settings.
  • “I don’t see a Grok subscription anywhere, but I’m being charged.” Check whether the charge is actually an X Premium or Premium+ subscription rather than SuperGrok — Grok access is often bundled there instead of billed separately.
  • “I canceled X Premium but Grok still works.” Access typically continues until the end of the billing period you already paid for; this is expected and not a sign the cancellation failed.
  • “I want to keep some Grok access but pay less.” Check whether a lower SuperGrok tier meets your needs before dropping to the free tier entirely.

What you lose when you drop to free Grok

If your usage is occasional, the free tier may cover you fine after canceling. If you regularly hit limits or use Grok Imagine often, weigh that against the lower SuperGrok tiers before dropping all the way to free.

Consider a lower tier before canceling completely

xAI offers multiple SuperGrok tiers, so if cost — not the product — is the issue, check whether a lower tier covers your needs before dropping to the free tier entirely. Full pricing detail is on our Grok pricing page.

If you’re canceling Grok because you’re also paying for ChatGPT or Claude and the combined bill feels like too much, an all-in-one aggregator is worth a look. Perspective AI bundles 30+ models — including GPT-5.2, Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek — with a no-commitment Pay-As-You-Go option or subscriptions from $14.99/mo, which is typically cheaper than keeping two or three separate AI subscriptions active.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cancel my Grok subscription?

It depends how you subscribed. For a standalone SuperGrok plan, go to grok.com → Settings → Billing → Manage subscription → Cancel. For Grok access bundled into X Premium or Premium+, cancel from the X app's Settings → Premium → Manage subscription instead.

Is Grok the same subscription as X Premium?

Not always. Grok can come bundled inside an X Premium or Premium+ subscription, or as a separate SuperGrok / SuperGrok Heavy plan billed directly through grok.com. Check your receipt or billing history to see which one you're actually paying for.

Will canceling Grok delete my chat history?

No. Canceling only stops the subscription charge and reverts you to Grok's free tier where available. Your saved conversations remain in your account unless you separately delete your data or account.

Do I get a refund if I cancel SuperGrok?

Generally no proration — canceling stops future billing, but you keep access through the end of the period you already paid for. If you subscribed via the App Store or Google Play, any refund request goes through Apple or Google, not xAI.

Why can't I find a cancel option for Grok?

If you subscribed inside the iOS or Android app, the cancel control lives in your phone's own subscription settings (Apple ID or Google Play), not inside the Grok or X app itself.

Can I downgrade from SuperGrok Heavy instead of canceling completely?

Yes. xAI offers multiple tiers, so switching down to a lower SuperGrok tier before canceling outright is usually possible from the same Billing → Manage subscription screen.
